New Collaboration - Japanese Incense

Today we’re talking about the ancient tradition of burning incense. This is a morning ritual that I’ve come to enjoy with my cup of coffee. One morning as I lit my Mexican copal stick, I started thinking about how people long before me have been doing this very same ritual. But just how old was this tradition? 6000 years old.

Incense is considered to be the oldest fragrant material used by humans. It dates back to Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt. How fitting to Tajmi (as this is where we drew inspiration for our name)! In many ways, the purpose of burning incense remains the same today as it did all those years ago. It was used to clear out certain unwanted odours, protect against demons, while simultaneously manifesting the presence of the Gods and creating an enjoyable ambiance. Some might argue incense still serves these very same purposes. It is used across the globe in various cultures and religions for some adaptation of this. I personally won’t argue with anything that could potentially ward off evil!

If we really start to think deeply about what we’re seeking from this ritual, it is to connect to something…to the Gods, to the room, to yourself. And with this exact concept in mind, Tajmi has been hard at work since the beginning of 2022, creating our very own box of authentic, hand rolled Japanese incense, made using only natural ingredients. The product is pure, for a slower burn with less smoke. What you are left with is simply a beautiful fragrance that will fill your space. I’m very excited to launch the final product for you to enjoy in your homes.

We have been working in collaboration with another small female owned business in Paris, and I’m so excited to share our new product - coming soon to our online shop!

Leaving you with some of our inspiration from this project xx
