The “Zanafi” weaving technique comes from the High Atlas Mountains. This technique is quite special as the style is reversible. The symbols become inverted depending on which side is presented!

This design includes Amazigh symbolism. The symbol in the centre represents protection from evil, while the zig zags on the side symbolize sickles, representing respect

This rug was handwoven by Khatima & Rokia, who belong to a womens-only association located in a village about 30 km north of the popular weaving town, Tazenakht. The Anzal collective was founded in 2007, and is kept alive by women passing the craft down through the generations.
